Read More: Jay Cutler (QB – CHI), Charles Tillman (CB – CHI), Caleb Hanie (QB – CHI), D.J. Moore (CB – CHI), Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs The Chicago Bears face the Kansas Chiefs this weekend as they hope to rebound from a frustrating loss against the Oakland Raiders last week, and they’ll be doing so with quarterback Caleb Hanie at the helm once again. Hanie struggled initially last week while replacing incumbent Jay Cutler, who may miss the remainder of the season with a thumb injury, but he showed some signs of potential and made an impressive 81-yard touchdown pass to Johnnie Knox late in the game. Hanie playing in Cutler’s place will once again be the big injury story of the week for the Bears, but it’s worth noting that starting cornerback Charles Tillman failed to practice with the team on Wednesday. The full injury report can be found here, but it’s not particularly long. Cutler is out this week, obviously, and Tillman didn’t participate. The other two names listed are cornerbacks D.J. Moore and Zachary Bowman, who were both limited in practice this week. Moore didn’t play last week, but should be able to return against Kansas City this weekend. | Bears’ Cutler not sure he’ll return from…
The Bears hope he will return this year. So does Cutler, but he wasn’t making any guarantees. “I’ve got to be smart about it,” he said. “Obviously, I’d want to play next week if they’d allow me. I don’t think that’s going to be in the cards. It could be I’m done for the season. I just have to be smart about it and realize that there is a long-term picture here. At the same point, I want to be out there and my teammates want me to be out there.” Cutler was injured trying to help tackle Antoine Cason on an interception return in the fourth quarter of a 31-20 victory over the Chargers, Cutler had three screws and two pins surgically inserted into his throwing hand three days later in Vail, Colo. He said the thumb is “structurally sound” and the screws will stay in. He said the pins come out after three to 10 weeks. Cutler also said he did not suffer any ligament damage, but did hyperextend and dislocate it. He has started rehabilitation and is trying to get the swelling to go down, but he expects to lose some flexibility in his thumb. He’s not sure when he’ll be able to start throwing, let alone play. “We’ll have to take it week by week, take some X-rays and CT scans the next couple weeks and see if the bone’s healing like it should be,” Cutler said. “I don’t want to put a real number on it because I just don’t know.” With Cutler sidelined, the Bears turned to Caleb Hanie last week and the results were mixed. Making his first start, Hanie threw three interceptions in the first half and flubbed a spike in the closing seconds of a 25-20 loss at Oakland, resulting in a game-ending intentional grounding call. He also did some things reasonably well, throwing for 254 yards and two touchdowns while running for 50 yards on five attempts, but Chicago (7-4) saw a five-game win streak end. With stars Julius Peppers and Brian Urlacher anchoring the defense and Devin Hester leading one of the top special-teams units, the Bears believe they have enough to get by. It would help if they had their starting quarterback, though. A lot. Cutler actually finished that game against San Diego and wound up with 286 yards passing. He also threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, but the only play anyone was talking about afterward was this one. With an 11-point lead against San Diego and the ball on the Chargers 30, Cutler was trying to hit Johnny Knox, but the receiver slipped. Cason picked off the ball at the 20 and returned it 64 yards before being pushed out of bounds by Matt Forte at the Bears 16. Cutler helped prevent a touchdown on the return, but paid a heavy price. He raced over and got knocked to the ground by linebacker Donald Butler as he pushed Cason with his right hand, which smacked the turf as he fell. Major Wright intercepted Philip Rivers’ throw in the end zone three plays later, and the Bears ran 71/2 minutes off the clock on the next possession, with Cutler completing two passes on the drive, to Matt Spaeth and Forte. Cutler did not realize at first that he was injured. “I was (ticked) at Johnny about the pick so coming off the field I didn’t really notice,” said Cutler, who thought Butler grabbed his facemask. “I was more worried about talking to him in a calm manner. After I settled down and went back on the field, I knew there was something definitely wrong and it was kind of serious. I didn’t really imagine I’d have to have surgery.” He said it was “really uncomfortable” but kept playing. He informed trainers something was wrong during a timeout on the Bears’ long possession but told them, “We’ll just have to deal with it after the game.” And beyond. | Bears’ Cutler, Cavallari engaged again
Updated Nov 30, 2011 1:55 PM ET
Kristin Cavallari revealed Wednesday that she and Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler are indeed engaged — for a second time.
“This time its official..Jay and I are engaged again The pair are set to resume wedding planning after they split up in July. The former “Hills” star began dating Cutler, 28, in the fall of 2010, and the lovebirds got engaged — for the first time — in April while on vacation in Mexico. But their romance hit the rocks over the summer and they called off the wedding and returned wedding gifts to friends in August. However, hints of a rekindled love came in September, when Cutler was seen supporting his ex-fiancée as she competed on Season 13 of “Dancing with the Stars.” The two have also exchanged flirtatious tweets and have not been shy about showing affection in public. Tabloid reports emerged Nov. 21 claiming that the engagement was back on but Cavallari, 24, adamantly denied the tale. “New week new rumor. I’m not engaged u guys,” she tweeted to fans. | Chicago Bears Waive Special Teams Player Brian…
By Satchel Price – Newsdesk contributor
The Chicago Bears waived linebacker and special teams player Brian Iwuh today in a somewhat unexpected move. Follow , and Like SB Nation Chicago on Facebook. Nov 29, 2011 – For a long time, high-quality special teams play has been a cornerstone of Chicago Bears football, but today the Chicago Bears decided to waive linebacker and special teams specialist Brian Iwuh. Iwuh, a sixth-year linebacker out of Colorado, is currently the team’s leader in special teams tackles. Iwuh suffered a minor hamstring injury while playing with Chicago against the Oakland Raiders last week, but it wasn’t expected to keep him off the field for long. At this point, it’s not entirely clear why the Bears decided to waive Iwuh from their roster during his second season with the team. According to this report from ESPN Chicago, sources told Michael C. Wright that the team had actually been considering a contract extension for Iwuh as recently as last week. Before joining the Bears last year, Iwuh had spent four years playing with the Jacksonville Jaguars in a similar role. | Fantasy Football Preview: Chicago Bears in Week 13
Note: The opinions expressed here are my takes on each player’s individual matchup. As always, use your best judgment and conduct your own research on who to start or bench each week. You know your individual team and/or league situation better than anyone else. Caleb Hanie(notes), QB Hanie had a solid 20.16 fantasy point performance last week against the Oakland Raiders despite throwing three interceptions during the game. He looks to have a favorable matchup this week against the Kansas City Chiefs who are giving up 16.74 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season. He still does not have enough experience to warrant a start however. Matt Forte(notes), RB While averaging 15.20 fantasy points per game, Forte has cooled off in the past couple of weeks. He scored just 8.40 fantasy points last week against the Raiders and shared time with Marion Barber(notes) who scored 6.30 fantasy points of his own. He does look to have a favorable matchup this week against the Chiefs who are giving up 22.35 fantasy points per game to running backs this season. Even if he splits touches again this week, he should at least put up totals just below his average. Roy Williams, WR I am including Williams this week because of the five targets he got from Hanie last week against the Raiders. With the Chiefs giving up 21.09 fantasy points per game to wide receivers and the I believe Williams could be one of the sleeper picks of the week. Johnny Knox(notes), WR Knox has been red hot these last two weeks scoring 15.70 fantasy points against the San Diego Chargers and 20.50 fantasy points last week against the Raiders. He has a favorable matchup this week against the Chiefs and even with Hanie under center; he looks poised for another big week this week. Kellen Davis(notes), TE With just 12 receptions all season, it is hard to consider Davis a viable fantasy tight end option. Strangely enough, he leafs the team with four touchdown catches. He had a solid 8.50 fantasy point game last week against the Raiders, but has been too inconsistent all season to warrant a start. I would suggest looking for more reliable options this week. Robbie Gould(notes), K Averaging 10.50 fantasy points per game, Gould is a very solid fantasy kicking option this season. He scored 12.00 fantasy points last week against the Raiders and looks to have a favorable matchup this week against the Chiefs. Kansas City is giving up 8.50 fantasy points per game to kickers this season leading me to believe he will put up a total near his average this week. Defense Averaging 12.00 fantasy points per game, the Chicago Bears’ team defense are one of the top in fantasy football. The scored only 6.00 fantasy points last week against the Raiders but hope to rebound this week against the Chiefs. Kansas City is allowing 9.90 fantasy points per game to team defense leading me to believe they will perform close to their average this week. Sources: All data provided by Yahoo!
